Transpose with Lauren Wilson: Subtleties, Softness, and Surroundings

Lauren Wilson regularly looks to the past, following historical lines of enquiry, in order to better understand or contest the present. The work she produces often centres around the feminine experience, and explores the subtleties of what it is to be human: our subconscious connections to history; place or each other.

Using drawing and language as a starting point, Lauren produced a series of initial images and compiled some text samples.

The imagery draws off of the natural world and objects that she has collected in her studio. The text was the result of a series of prompts we sent to encourage a loose back and forth dialogue.

In the print room, Fraser translated the drawings to transparencies. He and Lauren have selected copper as a substrate to experiment with. The use of this metal reconnects the drawings of natural objects to the earth. The plates also call to mind another printing process, etching, which Lauren has utilised in the past.
