87 Explorers is an opportunity to be part of something new and unique in Hull.

Being an Explorer means you will discover, investigate, collaborate, and make exciting art in a professional gallery.

Kids ages 7-16 can gather weekly with us in our unique Studio, where they will have exclusive after-hours access to our exhibitions, and can get involved in a hands-on way.

WHAT TO EXPECT

  • Weekly sessions exploring traditional processes and new technologies including CGI, photography, video and sound, sculpture, drawing, and more

Develop fundamental skills from observational drawing and traditional processes through to 3D work and experimentation with CGI, video, sound, and more

  • Develop personal outcomes with the guidance of our Engagement Producer - artist and qualified teacher Matt Fratson

  • Gain insight into creative careers through collaboration with local and national artists and designers, plus exclusive trips and visits

  • Explore ways of extending 2D work by using digital platforms from Creative Cloud through to game development and programming software to create powerful visual experiences

  • Learn about new materials as well as innovative technologies and how they’re being used by contemporary artists

  • Boost GCSE and A-Level/college coursework with opportunities for 1-1 work with Matt

Tuesdays
for 12-16s 4.30-6pm

Focus in on photography and lens-based media: learn about composition, manual settings, decision-making and build fundamental skills through the use of both digital and analogue film processes

  • Develop personal outcomes with the specialist, dedicated guidance of Hull-based photographer and educator Ruby Deverell

  • Collaborate on exciting location photography shoots across the city

  • Learn the use of Creative Cloud for photo editing and producing expressive digital manipulation

  • Investigate printing techniques and current, contemporary methods for presenting and sharing photographic work

  • Meet local and national photographers and artists and gain an understanding of creative career options

  • Develop an understanding of commercial or client-based, freelance and self-directed professional pathways

A school visit to 87 Gallery is an opportunity for students to tell us more about what they would like to see being made more available for them in the city, and which art subjects, techniques and processes they would be interested in learning, helping us to continue shaping our offer for young people across Hull and the East Riding.

  • Learn more about creative careers and working in an arts organisation, with our Engagement Producer and the gallery team

We offer exciting Work Experience placements and welcome all interest from students to come and join our team for a week.
