Who we are…

87 Gallery Explorers is an opportunity to be part of something new and unique in Hull. Being an Explorer means you will discover, investigate, collaborate, and make exciting art in a professional gallery.

Kids ages 7-16 can gather weekly with us in our brand new Studio, where they will have exclusive after-hours access to our exhibitions, and can get involved in a hands-on way.

WHAT TO EXPECT

  • Weekly sessions exploring traditional processes and new technologies including CGI, photography, video and sound, sculpture, drawing, and more!

  • The chance to gain an Arts Award qualification

  • Unique creative experiences online, on site, and across the city

  • Collaboration with artists and peers

  • The chance to develop creative projects, events, and digital channels

  • The opportunity to gain first hand knowledge from artists and professionals about what it’s like to have a creative career

  • A supportive environment to make friends and share your interests

  • Support to develop a portfolio

 

Term 1 (April-June ‘24)

STARTING APRIL

First Session Saturday 20 April
7-11s: 1-2.30 / 12-16s: 3-4.30

Wednesdays Thereafter | 24 April -  12 June

 7-11 Year Olds: 4.30 - 6.00 PM

12-16 Year Olds: 6.30 - 8.00 PM

Exhibition: Woman Life Freedom
Focus: Craft, Heritage, Identity

£10 / session for 9 sessions | £90 full term
Subsidised placements available (enquire here)

  • Investigate relationships between the visual elements in a multitude of traditional and physical processes, from photography and methods of observation through to experimentation and development using new technologies.

  • Gain special insight into the creative practices of our gallery staff, and work together with guest artists and designers, from inside - and outside - the city

  • Embrace the value of process, play and experimentation

  • New for 2024 - the opportunity to gain an Arts Award qualification!

School Visits

 

Teachers and students - would you enjoy spending an afternoon, or an evening after-school with us at 87 Gallery?!

  • Learn more about our current exhibition with an exclusive tour of the gallery and studio

  • Take part in a practical activity with a local artist

  • Learn more about creative careers and working in an arts organisation, with our Engagement Producer and the gallery team

  • Bookings available for Primary, Secondary and Post-16

A school visit to 87 Gallery is an opportunity for students to tell us more about what they would like to see being made more available in the city, and which art subjects, techniques and processes they would be interested in learning, to help us in continuing to shape and improve our offer for young people and the wider community in Hull and the East Riding.
