IDENTITY AND THE SELFIE

I have been making self-portraiture projects since 2009, so the pandemic and lockdowns have not affected my practice. Having a baby during this time has been the bigger challenge, and motherhood has made me look at myself in different ways. My identity has shifted and these are photos that I would not have made if I had not become a mother.

These works are taken from my series Oh Me, Oh Mãe about early motherhood. I became a mother to my daughter, B, in June 2020 and the project is a diary that helps me record and process what is happening during this chapter of my life.
